Nigeria Passes Law Banning Homosexuality

President Goodluck Jonathan this week has signed a new legislation outlawing homosexuality and imposing a prison term of 14 years for people who are persecuted under this new act.
This new act is known as the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act. Apart from forbidding same sex marriage, it also criminalizes homosexual clubs, associations and organizations.
This new law has attracted condemnation from countries like the US and UK, who consider themselves liberal societies.
I am of the opinion that every society and country at large have beliefs, ideals and cultures that makes them uniquely different from one another. It is the responsibility of every responsible government to put laws and policies in place to both uphold and preserve this.
Nigeria still is and will remain a highly religious and conservative society that considers homosexuality a deviation from the intrinsic human nature.
This bold step by the President and the legislative arm is commendable.
God bless President Goodluck Jonathan! God bless our Senators! God bless Members of the Federal House of Representatives! God bless Nigeria!
